Every January when I start to school I read the Trilogy once more. I've been doing this since the sixth grade. The first year I attempted this, it took me six months to read the entire trilogy. Last year, it took me only two months to read it. What's really interesting is how one's reading ability develops over time. I have been reading Fellowship detail by detail since Monday night, and I'm on Chapter Seven, In the House of Tom Bombadil now. I'm not trying to rush. I'm not speed reading. But it simply takes less time now. Anyways, there's always something new and refreshing whenever you read them again. I noticed several interesting similies (that I pretty much lost yesterday thanks to a very bad headache #19# ). The Old Forest Chapter is much more interesting (and shorter somehow) this time around. I guess I'm smarter. Anyways, for those who 'annually' read the books once a year, what details have you noticed that are... well, somewhat cool?

I've noticed how annoying the poems are. I guess you couldn't count me as an annual reader, I read it once in 5th grade, once in 7th grade, and once in the grade I'm in (9th). I seem to have forgotten a lot of the details, and when I read them this school year, it surprised me with all the details I didn't remember.. I guess it was because I was a silly 7th grader.

I like the poems, because they tell a story, or are just funny (hobbit poetry ). Frosty, if you skipped the poem about Nimrodel in the Lothlorien chapter, you really missed something. I've read that book so many times I'm starting to loose count... last time I checked, it was about 25 times Considering I'm 18, that's quite a lot There is so many things in those books that you just don't notice when you're speed- reading them... every time I go back, I find something new. Unfortunately, I only had a translated version which someone else gave me, so I sold it after a while and haven't had the opportunity to buy the original version yet

I'm about to reach the Council of Elrond. I love the Bree Chapters and the journey to Rivendell from there.

Book II of Fellowship is taking me a long time to read, probably because I've had to read HP/Order of the Phoenix and the Diary of Anne Frank at the same time.
The Lorien Chapters were nicer this time around. I liked a certain passage where Gimli learns that Galadriel is not an evil witch because of how she speaks of Khaza-dum. Can't remember the exact wording though.
