I liked playing the Treason of Isengard Section, and throwing Gandalf's fireball thingies at the towers.

Actually, I was listening to the credits, as I often to, because I like the music. Anyways, it came to the 'Fan Club' Credits, which are available on the EE DVD only for some reason. Anyways, I just start staring at the screeen because this is my favorite cue (the Bridge of Khazad-dum Fellowship Theme) and I suddenly see Christopher Lee's name pop up. I didn't know he was in the One Ring.net Tolkien Fan Club Thingy. That is all.

It was great how he modeled Shelob after a spider he dreaded as a kid. Atleast that's how I thought it went. And Shelob turned out great to. Who woulda thunk it?

Supposedly it was made to replace the Prologue and they cut it out when they edited the Prologue into the film.
If out of the two scenes, I'd much rather have the Prologue.
But this scene is nice.

CHAPTER TWO: Concerning Hobbits DISCUSSION: Sept. 3-6, 2005 DVD TIME INDEX: 7:35-10:33
Synopsis: Fade from Misty Mountains to a map of the Misties which fades into a map of Middle-Earth with an old man narrating. As we pan into a crowded study, the title, "The Fellowship of the Ring" accompanied by Howard's Fellowship Theme plays which transitions into the Hobbit Theme as Bilbo writes his book. He starts off with 'Concerning Hobbits' and as he comments on the carefree folk of short-hairy footed midgets, we see various scenes, including hobbits on the market at Bywater, a hog, two hobbits preparing to kiss while one eats away, and various others. Meanwhile, a knock is heard on the door. Bilbo asks a "Frodo" to answer but after sometime nobody answers. "Oh, sticklebacks! Where is that boy?"
BACON’S Opinion:
I like this scene. It sets up the hobbits very nicely, but I can see why it was cut. Too much exposition, not enough happening. The scene, "The Shire" coming up next sets up the Shire decent enough.
I like Sam's ONLY gardening shot and the little bits of hobbits as well. Not very much I find special in this scene, though...

What is your favorite score of the three LOTR Movies?
I prefer FOTR because of the awesome Fellowship Theme, the Ringwraith Theme, and the Hobbit Theme.

I'm glad they didn't show so much. If it had been as it was in the history of Middle-Earth, the audience would have been bored to tears by the end of it.
It's nice history, but not good for a three hour movie.

Deleted along with all of Land of the Monkeys. If I recall correctly, you wished that a bunch more stuff from the Silmarillion be included in the prologue.

I would also like to discuss Peter Jackson's version of FOTR chapter by chapter on the Extended Cut of the DVD. There are 46 chapters to discuss over the next forty-six days, excluding the two end credit scenes.
Each discussion will last 3 days. At the beginning of the second day, the following chapter will be posted.
CHAPTER ONE: Prologue: One Ring To Rule Them All DISCUSSION: Sept. 1st-3rd, 05 DVD TIME INDEX: 00:00 – 07:35
Synopsis: The opening logos appear on screen. An Elvish chorus is heard as Galadriel begins her stunning narration. After a few split seconds of silence, the “History of the Ring” Theme is heard and the wonderful “Lord of the Rings” Logo appears on screen. It then cuts to the forging of the Rings, where Galadriel informs us that the Rings were given to the race of Elves, Dwarves, and Men (the latter being the weakest of the three races). These Rings give them all the power to govern their lands. But, as Galadriel tells us, in the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark lord Sauron secretly forges his own Ring. ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL. We then cut to some footage of people being slaughtered. Anyways, we then cut to the beginning of a battle scene, where Elrond gives out orders to elves. Finally, Sauron appears, and wipes everyone out as he holds the power of the Ring. The King (I forget is name) is slaughtered by Sauron, where Isildur takes up his sword, which is called Narsil, and cuts the Ring from Sauron’s hand, which kills him. Middle-Earth is freed from his wrath. Though Isildur is given a chance to destroy the Ring, he does not take it, and instead keeps the Ring, showing the corrupt nature of men. Later, Isildur rides on his horse with fifty or so men when he is attacked. In the extended cut, we see Isildur’s plight to the river, where he is shot down by orcs. It falls to the bottom of the River Anduin, and it lost for thousands of years, until when chance comes, a creature snatches it. The creature Gollum takes the Ring into a mountain range known as the “Misties” where he is destroyed by the Ring. He is a horrible creature, corrupted by the Ring’s very nature, and his now-twisted mind. Then Bilbo comes along, and when Gollum loses his “precious”, Bilbo manages to find it. He puts it in his pocket, and we cut to an exterior view of the mountains where Galadriel reveals that the fate of the world is in the hand of hobbits, though we are not told if it is Bilbo are not. END OF CHAPTER
BACON’S Opinion:
This opening chapter is by far the best of the three movies. The Elvish choir is stunning. AMAZINGLY STUNNING. I get goosebumps everytime I hear it. Galadriel’s voice was perfect for the narrative. I hear they were going to have Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to do the voice, and even Frodo (Elijah Wood)! I’m so glad they picked Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) instead. Her voice is magical, like playing music on the piano.
I’m a big fan of showing the Rings and their masters, Elves, Dwarves, and Men. That really works for me, as does the map. I love Galadriel’s little hinty hint, “But they were all of them deceived, for another Ring was made…”
Sauron’s armor rocks. I don’t care what anyone says. They did right with him, and the inscriptions on the Ring.
I believe the footage used for Sauron’s wrath upon Middle-Earth is actually stuff used for TTT in the scene near the beginning where a village is attacked by wild-men, or Uruk-Hai (I can never tell).
The Battle Of Gorgoroth was amazing as well! The use of CGI in this film worked big time! I bought everything! It’s just a big, massive, action-packed battle that leads to one of the best moments in FOTR: Sauron’s death. I still don’t get it, but I buy it. Why does he need the Ring to stay alive? Or is it his finger that he needs….
Isildur’s death is okay, I just really like the dialogue with Galadriel, “It betrayed Isildur… to his death. And some things that should not have been forgotten… were lost.”
Gollum is great also, though in FOTR he is only a prototype. It’s okay, I guess. His voice is what makes him. Bilbo’s appearance here is also okay. Nothing bad, just not very memorable for me.
I also love the end line, “For a time would soon come, when hobbits will shape the fortunes of all.”

One of my favorite scenes in Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring is the Prologue, which, as I'm sure many of you know, was actually reedited in post-production and abruptly given a score.
Do we actually need the prologue?
I don't think it's necessary, but I think it introduces Tolkien's World so much better than the Concerning Hobbits Scene that was deleted. Apparently, some of the footage shot for the Prolgoue would end up in an extended scene in Bag End in which Gandalf tells Frodo of the History of the Ring.
I think this would be very interesting to see, were it actually used in the film, which is why I ponder on this subject. Your thoughts?

How would you change it to make it better? It has to stay a cartoon; remember that though.
I would improve the design of Treebeard; take rotoscoping out of the picture and do entire animation, and... uhh... just improve the character development, which was severely lacking in Bakshi's Film.

Yes, the Grey Havens was one of the highlights of ROTK. Very sad.
The Shire scenes are in my favorites as well. A very contrasting mood with the rest of the movie.
I also love the Party scene in FOTR. Just like the book, except not as light-hearted.

My favorite scene in the movies is a tie between three, all in FOTR:
The Bridge of Khazad-dum/The Departure of Boromir/The Road Goes Ever On
Two are death scenes, and one is a depressing scene. Typical of me.
Anyways, I just love the ending of FOTR. It leaves you depressed, but with a sense of hope. It's short and sweet.
I like the Bridge of Khazad-dum, mostly because of the music and Gandalf's 'Fly, you fools!'
The Fellowship Theme blaring is awesome.
Boromir's last lines are why I love this scene:
I would have followed you, my brother... my captain... my King!

CHAPTER III: The Shire DISCUSSION: Sept. 15-18, 05 DVD TIME INDEX: 15:39-56 Synopsis: Gandalf knocks on the door of Bag End. His reply is a nasty one, and from inside Bilbo sends the wizard away with a comment of 'I don't want anymore visitors, well-wishers, or distant relations!' Gandalf smiles, saying 'And what about very old friends?' The door opens and the two friends embrace in a long-time no see hug. Gandalf notes that Bilbo hasn't aged a day. They walk inside the halls of Bag End, to which Bilbo places Gandalf's hat and staff on the wall, and moves to make some tea. Meanwhile, Gandalf studies Thorin's map, which shows Smaug and the mountain. When Bilbo appears, Gandalf has vanished, only to reappear behind him smiling. They chat in the kitchen about several things, including Bilbo's little trick and what Frodo knows about it. Bilbo shows signs that something is affecting him deeply. He wishes to see the mountains again, and wants to leave the Shire. Gandalf sees him fiddling in his pocket. '... I doubt I will return... infact I mean not to.' he says. Later on the evening, they sit on a hill overlooking the valley below where the party will take place. They smoke pipe, a ring of smoke coming from Bilbo's pipe. In another moment, a ship of smoke comes from Gandalf's pipe and crosses through the ring, both being lost in the wind. 'Gandalf... this will be a night to remember.' Pics: BACON’S Opinion: Another great Shire scene. I applaud Ian and Ian for their work in this scene. They really do seem like they've known each other for sixty years. Their friendship is fun to watch, and Gandalf is very fun as he moves through Bag End. At one point, he hits himself against the wall (it was actually an accident but they kept it in). Ian Holms is the best choice for Bilbo. One of the greatest scenes in FOTR is the smoking scene, IMO. Like Gandalf says in the latter films, 'It's the deep breath before the plunge.' Deep Breath=Smoking Scene Plunge=Party Awesome scene. BACON'S RATING: *****/*****
